How to Spring Clean Beauty Products
I know, I know. There’s always that struggle of keeping a half-full foundation bottle just because it’s pricey and there’s still so much product in it!
But, do you know that if you keep using it past its expiration date, that you’re actually putting your skin at risk of bacterial infection? Now you do, it’s time to take action!
Your skin’s health is priceless while your beauty products are replaceable. Heed these spring cleaning tips and get that trash bin right now!
Can you imagine not being able to clean your beauty product stash for an entire year? Yes, that’s literally Spring 2020 to Spring 2021! Well, I think you do seeing the mess you have right in front of you right now.
So, the real question is, what are you throwing away and what will you be holding on to? In line with that, how will you clean (if applicable) those that you keep? Our comprehensive guide of spring cleaning tips will help you!
Cleaning Beauty Tools
As much as we all want to, not everything can be cleaned with soap and water, sad to say. Here’s a list of beauty tools that we all love using and instructions on how to clean them:
Eyelash Curler
Replace rubber pads or remove stains with cotton pads and makeup remover.
Fake Eyelashes
Soak fake lashes in warm water with dish soap to allow the glue to peel off easily.
Pencil Sharpener
Remove the shavings, then use a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol to get into all of its little nooks and crannies.
Mascara Wand
Soak in warm water, then work through the bristles with shampoo. Rinse, then repeat.
Makeup Brushes and Sponges
Wash with warm water and a couple of drops of baby shampoo.
Makeup Bag
Clean from the inside out using makeup remover wipes. Return contents only when it’s completely dry.
Hairbrush
Remove pesky strands with a toothpick.
Hair Ties
Wash using a bit of soap and water, then rinse and hang dry.
Flat Iron
Scrub with cotton and rubbing alcohol.

Hair Dryer
Run a toothbrush over the back vent to remove lint.
Tweezers
To sharpen, put an emery board between the tweezers, then tweeze and pull.
Nail Tools
Soak in warm water for 2 minutes, dry off, then wiped with an alcohol-soaked cotton ball.
Clarisonic Brush Head
Wash with either dish soap, cleanser or shampoo, then use it against a towel for a minute.
Loofah
Change every 3 to 4 weeks.
Plastic Pouf
Throw in the wash with some detergent but avoid putting it in the dryer. Replace every 2 months.
Pumice Stone
Store in a dry place until it’s used again.
Expiration Date
Keep track of your products’ lifespan by adding labels. This way you’ll know when it’s time to toss them away. When adding labels, start from the date you opened them. Check out the expiration dates of beauty products below:
2 to 3 months
These items must be replaced after 2 to 3 months:
