There are many things I love about blogging, but one of my absolute favorite parts is planning for photoshoots. It’s no secret that having the best images possible is an important part of having a successful blog. You could have the best photographer and photo filters, but if you’re struggling with how you look, it’ll be obvious in your content too. This is why I put forth so much energy into planning and preparing for a shoot. Instagram makes it look like a breeze, but there’s actually a ton of chaos that happens behind the scenes. Today, I’m breaking down how to pack for a photo shoot to ensure a seamless process if you have upcoming engagement or family photos.

Planning My Outfits
Photoshoots typically have to be planned in advance to align with my content calendar. What that means is I’m rarely getting dressed on a whim to go take photos. I always start by conceptualizing a few ideas for the next month ahead and then plan my outfits accordingly. I’ll try to pull 3-5 outfits to shoot at a time, which involve pulling out the clothing items or trends I want to highlight and then building looks around them. Once I’ve pulled those pieces out, I try on every single outfit in front of a full-length mirror and match them up with the best shoes and handbags. I then put them into a trunk organizer sorted by outfit.
Lipstick & Jewelry
Makeup and jewelry can oftentimes make all the difference in photos. So, I’ll pack a specific lipstick or gloss to go with each outfit. I have powder on hand and/or you could pack oil blotting sheets for quick touch ups. I also like to coordinate my outfits with the right jewelry, so I use a separate organizer or jewelry bag per outfit. Before heading out the door, my lipstick, accessories, and outfits are packed neatly into the trunk organizer so I can change in a pinch while I’m out.
Products for Touch Ups
It’s so hard to be motivated to shoot when you’re not 100% satisfied with the way your hair or makeup looks, which is why packing a beauty bag is so important. They come in so handy if you need to freshen up in between outfit changes. With makeup, I’ll usually just bring along a powder and lipstick. However, my hair tends to need a bit more – especially depending on the weather – so I’ll have a hair brush and a few styling products with me.

Right now, I throw in the new Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam to turn up the volume and give my hair that extra lift when I’ve gone a day or two without washing. It’s perfect to use while you’re in the car because it’s non-aerosol, so you don’t have to worry about residue sticking everywhere – and you won’t fog yourself out with product. The Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam is a sulfate-free, non-drying foam that softens while it cleanses. It is infused with Pro-V vitamin B5 and orchid flower water in the foam, which works to release clumped hair. Just put a small amount of foam in your fingertips, rub it into your roots and brush out. I use this product even when I’m not shooting because I rarely have time to fix my hair these days. It makes my strands feel amazing and I can go longer in between washes, which rarely ever happens.

I’m also bring the Pantene Mist Behaving Dry Conditioner Mist. I use a lot of heat styling tools, so I rely on this one to deliver that dose of silky smoothness. It basically a mixture between a leave-in conditioner and a styling spray. It conditions your strands thanks to a blend of light-as-air hydrators that are evenly distributed in every tiny droplet in this paraben-free, sulfate-free micro-mist. It’s so easy to spray (from 6-8 inches) away through the ends of my hair outside the car when my hair starts feeling rough and unruly. This happens often in the fall when it’s dryer out. Both products are compact and smaller, which make them so convenient for on-the-go use. All you need to do is toss them in your bag and go. This duo has totally transformed my non-wash days!

Make sure you pick up the new Pantene Waterless Collection for a limited time at your local Walmart!
